“Yamaha TX802 FM Synthesizer
This: Zappa *Note Hocketing* 🔥
This synth along with an entire rack was given to me by Todd Yvega. You have heard these custom presets on numerous TV shows, movies and albums including Zappa and Duckman.
Frank and Todd loved to employ note hocketing. Imagine a C Major scale and instead of an Oboe playing C, D, E and so on. Instead, a different instrument chooses a single note to play. So a trumpet plays C, violin plays D, oboe plays E and everybody has to be ready to play one right after another. You could hear the scale and the timbre change positionally across a soundstage.
Frank Zappa had a TX816 and Todd got the TX802. The programming of hocketing on this synthesizer is a literal breeze. Frank’s TX 816 was essentially a stack of rackmount a DX sevens with no user interface. And since both Frank and Todd started with FM systems with the Synclavier, it was a favorite go to instrument.
There will be more auctions to follow every 4-5 days.
Some of you might know remember me as the Yaking Cat. I supported Synclavier users from 1995 until 2012. As a Synclavier user myself, service and support was very hard to find. I have probably the single largest collection of sound library‘s that have been converted, technical data, etc. Todd gave me his entire rack and I will be selling off pieces from it.
The history of the synthesizer and its provenance can be gone into further detail if you message me.This is being sold as-is due to the delicate nature of old electronics. It is running right now and has been tested. I can verify this with a video.” Click here to visit listing on eBay
