“Moog MG1 Realistic Synthesizer By Moog Music 1980 USA Vintage Analogue Synth
The MG-1 was built by Moog for Radio Shack as part of their attempt to corner the keyboard market.
Very similar to the Moog Rogue that later emerged from Moog the MG1 has two oscillators, white noise, sync and a Moog ladder filter. It also has a ‘bell tone’ which is none tech speak for a ring modulator. The synth differs from the Rogue as it has a polyphony section. This section allowed you to play chords as well as adding a third sound source to your synth. The MG1 is a very flexible little synth!
This one is in good cosmetic condition and plays well, it has been cleaned and all functions work however it has its issues. I’m selling as spares and repairs as the ‘tone source’ switch may need replacing as it occasionally cuts out and needs encouragement. There is some corrosion to the jack sockets and RCA outputs, the RCA outputs cut out and will need replacing. I have always used the 1/4” headphone socket at the front to amplify it. I’ve also not used the interface ports – presumably CV type interfaces.
There is a mains lead included. This synth unlike the Rogue has a built in transformer. I must say this is quite noisy and there is background mains hum from it.
All keys, sliders, knobs, switches and single led work. The sliders are clean but not smooth to operate like modern ones. The dreaded black foam has been replaced at some point.
This is a 40 year old synth and quite delicate, they don’t travel well so pickup is definitely recommended. A pro service is also recommended- this is not a modern brand new Moog and so please ensure you read the description thoroughly before you bid. I can post in the UK but this is at buyer’s risk. It’s a great little synth with the signature Moog sound but it’s old and can be quirky and needs a service. ”
