“Here’s a Korg 770 synthesizer I acquired about 15 years, it’s been on the shelf for years and it’s time to find it a new home. All of the keys and controls work properly but a few of the switches and a couple of pots have some scratchiness to them but nothing outside of the ordinary for a piece of gear this old. Nothing has been restored or refurbished, I’ll leave that to the new owner. This synth was purchased by me years ago from public high school auction so safe to say it was never in a smoking environment. “This was a rescue that needed a lot of work. Synth works and sounds great now. Has cosmetic wear to the faceplate, see photos. No circuit modifications were performed, everything was left as it was.

Work performed:

-Full power supply recap (Nichicon electrolytics)

-All solder joints reflowed on every single board (this actually restored full electronic functionality)

-New Alpha brand 10K power/volume potentiometer switch (Original broken)

-All pots, switches, and faders fully flushed out with contact cleaner and followed up with DeOxit Faderlube as needed

-New knobs (Originals missing)

-New fader caps (Originals missing)

-Keybed removed and fully disassembled and inspected, keys ultrasonically cleaned (needed no repairs or adjustments, was just very dirty)

-New 2-prong power cable properly soldered in (no splices or twist caps)

-New custom-cut unfinished birch ply side panels from Send Cut Send (originals were heavily damaged/broken, hole alignment isn’t perfect, still looks good, finish them in the stain/color of your choice)

-New black 3D printed keyboard side trim pieces (designed them myself in CAD, originals were heavily damaged/broken)

-New 3D printed Korg badge on back (Designed myself in CAD, original one was missing)

I put a lot of work into this synth, and I hope whoever ends up with it makes lots of cool music with it. It sounds awesome.”

“Here is a 1970’s Korg 770 monophonic synthesizer -beautiful piece of synth history! This thing makes some super weird sounds and is great for creating lo-fi soundscapes, mood pads, and other sound fx. Apparently you can also run external sounds through it though I have never experimented with this. It is fully functional despite some cosmetic wear and tear (see pics) and one missing 3 way Sustain switch. The switch can still be toggled using your fingernail or carefully with a flathead screwdriver. Switch part# is CST023NK if you wish to track down a replacement. In excellent condition, the synth shows a few light scuffs to the wooden end cheeks and some light scuffs and scratches to the control panel, but remains in remarkably good condition for its age. I would confidently say, you’d do well to find a better example out there.

The synth has been tested extensively and there are no faults, every aspect operates perfectly. Any Korg 770 is a rare find, but an early one with wooden end cheeks in this condition, they won’t come along that often.

“The 770 is a very early, very cool Korg synth, but you probably know that or you wouldn’t be looking.
White noise, tuned noise, 2 different ring modulator modes, 2 oscillators, High and Low Pass filters.

The great thing about these is they sound like nothing else. If you’re an analog synth guy who already has the normal stuff, this definitely opens up another range of sounds you can create. In fact you can go inside the unit and tweak trim pots to alter the behavior of the filters! You can also run external audio through them. It has a mean, raw sound that later pieces like MS20 can only dream of!

The only issue with this is the auto bending feature doesn’t work consistently, but it isn’t broken. The portamento is more musical and works fine. Apparently it was used near some spray paint as there is some on the right end cheek and a very subtle amount on the far right side of the control panel, but unless you’re staring at it under bright light you won’t even notice.” Click here to visit listing on eBay
