“Recently obtained from a back line rental company that was liquidating excess equipment.

In great physical condition, very clean all around. No cracked or chipped keys.

Display reads “Change Battery!” when powered up. I did install a new battery, but display still says to change it.

No output sound from any of the outputs at all.

Has some funky looking characters on the display, I imagine this is from the low battery.

Floppy disk drive does seem to be functioning as I heard it making noise when engaging the drive from the menu.

” This was our “studio synth” since purchased brand new (a while back). This has now sat in my son’s closet for a while, needs a battery and probably it’s sounds re-loaded….. no energy to deal with messing with this now so selling as-is but certainly worked back when it was stored away, so hopefully an easy fix for a DX7 enthusiast out there! “For sale is a used Yamaha DX7IIFD FM Synthesizer. It is a really cool board that I will miss. It is the epitome of 1980s FM synth sounds. Amazing for pads, strings, ambient sounds and more. I bought it used earlier this year from guitar center. It came with its issues. Pitch and mod wheel were wobbly, but they have been tightened and work fine. There is one key that is chipped on the underside, and 2 that are slightly raised (all 3 keys pictured). All keys play normally. The “A” output does not work, but the “B” output and the headphone jack both work fine. The midi output has some strange behavior that I have not been able to troubleshoot. The midi in works fine though. The floppy disc drive seems to be working mostly normally, but I have not been able to successfully format or save to the floppy disks that I have. I do not have any cartridges, therefore have not tested the cartridge slot, but I have no reason to believe that it has any issues. Pedal inputs work normally. Display has no issues. I have not changed the battery personally, but there do not seem to be any battery issues (which can apparently be common with this board if untouched for significant periods of time). There seems to be something rattling around inside when moved, but it does not affect performance. There are obviously scratches and dents that are all pictured. I am selling this “As Is” for these reasons.”

“This listing is for a Yamaha DX7 II-FD with E! Grey Matter Installed. All of the micro switches have been replaced along with the addition of an internal battery holder for easy replacement. The floppy drive works nicely as well as all buttons, volume & mod sliders. There are a couple banks loaded with various sounds but to get the most out of this awesome synth, you can upload additional sounds through a MIDI port interface. There are scratches, blemishes, scuffs, etc as it is over 30 years old.”

“Firstly, I believe there is an E card in this unit , but I am not certain…..The unit powers on but there is no sound…I think it has to be reprogrammed to get the internal sounds….At least that is what the owner is telling me…I keyboard player would know better what that means….I don’t know if it’s a small fix…the right buyer should take advantage….This is why I am listing this as broken and for parts….”

Not sure if it’s because I don’t know what I’m doing or if it is actually broken. Could possibly be a battery on the circuit board. It does power on and most functions seem to respond on the display. There’s a hole drilled in the top left corner and there are 2 places on the front panel that the paint was repaired. See the pictures.
