“Roland SH-101 Vintage Analogue Synthesizer.

I bought this amazing analogue synth alongside a Roland TB303 Bassline and TR606 Drumatix in the 90’s as part of my home studio setup along with a Casio CZ1000. Sadly the SH101 is the only item I have left from that setup, although I still have the CZ1000 manual if anyone wants it.

The SH101 is the legendary Roland machine listed in the fantastic book, The Synthesizer & Electronic Keyboard Handbook by David Crombie, and foreword by Thomas Dolby.

The machine is in very good condition, all buttons, sliders and switches work and is in full working order. I have had this from almost new.

Battery holder is in great condition with no rust on contacts and takes 6x Type C 1.5v batteries.

“As pictured, the synth is in complete condition, and there are no signs of former battery leakage. All controls have been checked, and a few new sliders in the filter section were replaced with new ones.
All key contacts have been cleaned, and a re fully playable.

The synth is supplied with an original Roland PSU, and a copy manual, plus there’s an option of a free hard case, if you require it.

“Not used since the 90’s. Broken keys a result of something falling onto the synth. It was still playable then but I can’t tell if it still works as it has been in storage for almost 20 years and I’ve no idea where the PSU went in that time. I never had the modulation grip. “I bought this in 1987 from the original owner. I have tested it and all keys, knobs, switches, sliders, bender, sampler, arpeggiator, etc. work. I recently opened up the back to replace a couple of keys but did not dig deeper than that. No excessive dirt/dust (for a 40 year old keyboard), but I imagine if someone is going to make this their new baby, they may want to get in there and “detail” it (videos online for that).

No manual (never got one) but they are free online.

“This synth works great but the volume knob is a bit loose (but works perfectly). Also the filter fader has no effect on the filter, you still can control the filter by the env filter fader. The filter fader worked after I teaked some internal settings, but then stopped working when I later tuned the unit for pitch… ”

“Up for auction here is my beloved Roland SH-101. I agonised over selling this but sadly needs must and I can hold on to it no longer.

I’ve owned this synth for many years, I don’t have the original box but I do have the manual. It will be well packaged for shipping.

Everything on this synth works exactly as it should and cosmetically, it’s pretty much perfect. I look after my synths better than I look after myself. The battery compartment is clean and tidy, with no past leaking batteries!

Sound-wise, it can be as dainty and sparkly or thunderous and bone shaking as you like. Whoever buys this, please love it and treat it with the care it deserves!”

For postage I’ll obviously pack the synth in the box and then the box into another box to protect it. ”

“Had this for about a year and when it came the power button had already been wired so it is always on, as it helps solve tuning issues.
It might need a new Filter Freq Slider as its a little rough and jumps a bit.

It’s currently a few semitones out on the keyboard but this can be solved by Transposing the key up or down to where it should be, but ideally needs a tune up.

Nice condition otherwise. Comes with non original power supply.

“I’ve owned six or seven of these over the last forty years and this is the best one I’ve had. The condition is excellent. Sounds great and all switches, knobs and faders work perfectly.

The battery compartment is in excellent condition inside and opens and closes like new.

Anything less than perfect I have photographed.

1. Very small scratch on rear.
2. Very small mark near power switch.
3. Frequency slider is very slightly bent. Doesn’t affect its function at all so i have left it but could be gently bent into shape in seconds.”
