Roland JP-8000 Project Machine

“Roland JP-8000 Analog Modeling Synthesiser. – this is sold as not working, although it does.

I inherited and was going to do it as a repair project, but I do not currently have the time.

I have replaced the internal battery and the presets, ribbon slider, and pitchbend work.

All pots and sliders work, but some are a bit loose and crackly. It suffers with volume drops and distortion at times, which I believe is to do with the capacitors and is a relatively cheap and easy fix (they are available on EBay) .

It is missing the power button from the back, so it has to be turned on at the mains. There is also a fader cap missing on one of the sliders.

For someone who has a bit of time, knows what they are doing, and can solder, this is a good little project. The synth does work in its present state. However, it is a bit temperamental with the problems listed. These synths are known for that.

It is sold as seen and is collection only due to weight.

This is one stunning sounding synth, it’s impossible to make it sound bad.

I’ve used 106’s since the late 80s, and owned this particular one since 2011 which I bought it from the original owner.

When I acquired it, I had it serviced with new voice chips and battery replaced.

It’s been lovingly cared for and kept in pristine condition and has been my favourite synth that I’ve ever owned.

As you can see from the photos [ some are slightly washed out from the
strong sunlight but the colours are like it was when new – I know I used one in the late 80s ]
and hear from the video it’s in superb condition and I don’t think you’ll find

From massive bass or creamy leads, crazy effects and textures.. Add a little reverb and its outstanding! I have had the SH5, SH7 and .. The ’32 slider works great but on occasion cuts out when its at max position.. no biggie, its really just a volume slider for the 32 octave wave.. plenty of volume there even when not maxed. And.. a few keys can on occasion re-trigger when played.. does not happen often but just stating for full disclosure. “I bought this keyboard from a fellow musician around 1980. He had painted it black. All pots, faders, keys, switches, etc. are there. The only things missing are two of the bottom round pads it sits on. The last time I played it was at a gig in late 1987.

I no longer have an amp to hook it up and test it but I did put on headphones and scaled up and down the keyboard and turned and moved all the knobs/faders with minimal crackling. When I first turned it on it didn’t appear to be working, but once I started moving and playing things it jumped to life. “The unit powers up and all the buttons and lights turn on but there is NO sound output from the headphone or the L/R main outputs. We sent it to a shop for diagnostic and upon visual inspection they noticed that capacitor C219 and the traces that connect it to the board where completely missing. These keyboards suffer from a common problem of bad capacitors. It’s likely an inexperienced person tried to make an unsuccessful repair and damaged the traces to the C219 capacitor. All the external knobs and switches are intact and the screen display is also visible when powered up. There was no other visible damage to any of the other internal components. The shop used a sound generator and determined that sound can process through the jack board so it’s likely the main culprit is in the Main Board A. This would be a good project for someone skilled in electrical repair or as a parts donor.”

” Roland D-50 Synthesizer for sale. Warm analog sounds, all of the white and black keys work as well as the modulation wheel. There are a few patches of cosmetic scratches on the bottom. The battery should have plenty of juice in it as well. The card shown in the pictures comes with it and I’ve played through them to confirm they work, with this one caveat – keys 3 and 5 on the patch number row are currently not functioning. Seen overhead in the first picture, all of the “Patch Bank” buttons work, however, just to the right, the 3rd and 5th “Patch Number” buttons are not accessible. The fourth is good, but you might have to press on the right or left side just a bit. I’m not equipped to attempt a repair, but it seems possible to restore functionality if you or a technician can take a look at it, thereby opening up those sounds as well. Besides that it’s in great shape. All of the accessible sounds come through warm and clear. Playing through them is always fun and it’s a bummer to part with it.
