“Vintage (1987) classic/legendary Roland D-50 Synthesizer in excellent condition. Rubber contact strips were replaced by new ones about a year ago. A complete cleaning of the Keyboard contact board was also performed before placing the new contact strips. Slide potentiometers for Volume and Aftertouch were also replaced by new ones. The entire synthesizer is perfectly working.

“Hi everyone. This a vintage Roland D-50 keyboard. I am the original owner and it has lived it’s entire life in a smoke free home. You’ll be hard pressed to find one in this condition. No problems, No non-functioning keys, or any other nonsense. Just simply a well kept instrument. I have all the original manuals, two rom cards, and all the information that came with it when it was purchased. It can be heard on many albums from the late 1980’s!! Back in the day, every big time artist had one of these on their keyboard racks. The pictures are taken in natural light. There’s barely even any dust between the buttons or keys! It was kept covered with a felt pad. The only thing to note is a small dent on the bottom (see green arrow). It will be well packed in bubble wrap to ensure a safe journey to you!! Thanks!! ”

“Powers on, but gives a ‘check internal battery’ error. I’ve tried replacing the battery several times, but no success. It doesn’t retain any sounds in internal memory. Also, the 4 buttons (Upper/Lower/Value/Local) next to the X/Y joystick don’t work.

It is possible to load and play patches one at a time into RAM via SYSEX or MIDI and the Roland D-50 Librarian software on a PC (see picture 8), so the keyboard does work. All the keys work and respond to velocity, and the rest of the front panel functions, including the bender and after-touch.
It sounds lovely with a low noise floor and all outputs seem to be functioning correctly as well as MIDI in/out/thru. I haven’t tested it with a memory card as I don’t own any to test with.

I tried to fix the problems myself by replacing several capacitors, diodes and chips on the main board, having taken advice from an engineer, but to no avail. My soldering is not neat but the replaced components appear to work correctly.

The exterior of the keyboard has various scratches and scuffs, some of the keys have chips/marks, all consistent with age. (See pictures)

Given the above problems I am selling the keyboard strictly for SPARES OR REPAIR, although I recommend repair to be attempted only by a professional electronic musical equipment repair technician. I will not consider selling individual components separately. This auction is for the whole keyboard. No power cable included, but uses a standard IEC kettle lead. ” This was a project I picked up with the hope of fixing but it’s now sat on my desk for a few months without me touching it leading me to realize I won’t have the time. It does start up but there are lines over most of the LCD screen. In testing when you push certain buttons the display does change (see pictures). Plugging it into my board I wasn’t able to get any sound out of it. Last, but not least, the person I got it from lost all the screws keeping the back metal panel secured to the frame, so you’ll need new screws. My lack of time can be your gain.”

“Selling my Roland D50 for Parts or Repair. I have tried to get this thing going, but I must be missing something.

The power supply has been rebuild to be the Caps were out of spec and some voltages were off. Also the key contacts have been clean. I have changed out the back up battery as well.

As you can see in the photos when the unit is powered on it loads and goes to what looks like the patch screen but it is call scrambled up. I have read on like were people reload the factory patches from a card, but I do not have any D50 cards.
