“I am the 2nd owner of this. I have had it for 20 years, never gigged, just home use. All caps replaced years ago. Midi added. There was some feature put in by the original owner that I removed so there’s a small row of plugged screw holes on the top left of the unit.

I had the anvil case made. It looks near perfect with only a couple of small scratches to the top of the case. Working well, awesome sound. Programs fine. No problems to speak of. ZERO corrosion or paint chipping. This one is probably the cleanest one available right now. “Up for sale is the cleanest Oberheim OB-8 you will ever come across anywhere and I’m very confident about this statement as I am always in the market searching and looking at all Oberheiims that come on the market and I’ve been doing that for years. I have never seen anything near this clean and not only clean but also healthy.

I recently purchased a brand new upgraded keybed from UK from a small company that made limited number of upgrade keybed a for OB-8’s. I was lucky enough to buy one and have mine installed which not only made this unit reliable for life as we all know how the OB8 keybed gives issues due to connectors but also the feel of it is like million dollars. The new keybed makes playing this unit give you the feel of a brand new synth. It works perfectly too. It was made to fit 100% and I’m extremely satisfied with the result.

The unit was just fully serviced by a very good tech from Valley Sound in North Hollywood California at the time of the keybed installation. This was done just less then a month ago. I also purchased and added custom made side panels with upgraded golden screws which makes it look so much better. The unit is free of any imperfections as you will see. There is only one scratch on it which was very professionally touched up. The mighty and classic Oberheim sound – as heard on all your favorite late 80’s to early 90’s synth hits – in a 1U rack.
The “1000” refers to the ridiculous (especially for the era) number of presets, classified as 195 keyboard sounds, 118 strings, 130 woodwinds and percs, 239 synthesizer, 119 bass, 74 lead, and 125 effects. It’s the same engine as the Matrix 6 and 6R, with 6 voices – each having 2 DCO’s, a low pass filter, 2 VCA’s, 3 envelope generators, 2 LFO’s, and 2 ramp gens.

This thing will eat for plug-ins for breakfast. It’s yummy warm for pads, punchy for bass, snappy for leads, and in true Oberheim style the brass patches have that reassuring foomf. OK – I just made that up, but it sounds great!

Overall condition is good – surface scratching from rack mounting and something took a chomp out of the lower right side rack ear (doesn’t effect the ability to slide it into a rack and be secured by the other three screws – hardly noticeable once rack’d.) Looks like some of the screws on the faceplate aren’t original so maybe it had some surgery at some point. I’m not the original owner but it has spent the past 20 years in my care under loving climate controlled smoke free studio conditions.

Buttons are responsive, audio output is clean and free from noise, LED’s are nice and bright – all functions tested and working.

When pared with the Ctrlr software (or any of many other editors) the true depth and power of this machine comes to life. It has the OS1.2 update and works well with MIDI controllers.

It has always served me well – now it’s looking for a new home so it can continue to make wonderful sounds for a long time to come.”

“I’m the original owner. Bought it some time in the late 80’s or early 90’s. Used it on various commercials and multi-media projects until around 2004, when I left the biz. It’s been sitting in a rack in my smoke-free, personal studio since then. It hasn’t even been powered up much in the last 17 years. It was in very good cosmetic condition, until I tried to clean the sticky residue from a label off the top left front the other day. That cleaning solution caused the finish to smear and look ugly. I’ve tried to provide several pictures and angles of that discoloration so that you can see it clearly. There’s also a light scratch in the upper right part of the display.

“Please read for complete description of the synthesizer.For sale is an Oberheim Matrix 1000 analog synthesizer. I purchased this unit about 5 years ago from a college music professor. It was fully working when purchased and has sat unused for years. I recently powered it on to test it before listing it for sale and it displayed the “1.1.1/6.1.1” error message on the screen. I powered it off and on, and it then worked perfectly fine. All of the buttons work perfectly, all of the inputs and outputs work, the volume knob works perfectly, and it sounds absolutely AMAZING. I left it powered off for a week and went back to it. I powered it on and got the “1.1.1” message, I powered it off and back on, and once again was able to get everything to work perfectly fine. Looking into this error, it looks like an issue with the back-up battery. I don’t have the time or money to spend repairing it so I’m looking to sell it “as-is”, though I’m sure its an easy fix for someone who is familiar with vintage gear. ” Electronically restored 2 years ago. Recapped and most pots replaced. Plays Great & Sounds Great. All new foam in the case too.

Knicks are threefold:

#1. If you want it perfect, the case will need to be stripped and repainted and then re-silkscreened. There are companies out there that do this. I just wanted it to play properly, so the fact that the finish on the case isn’t perfect never bothered me.

#2. The Pratt-Reed keyboard plays fine, but the key dampers should be replaced. You get a little mechanical noise when playing. I used it for recording, so it never bothered me.

#3. The unit has a JL Cooper MIDI interface. It worked when I got it, but after I had the service done it stopped working. Again, there are other companies out there offering MIDI kits for this keyboard.” Click here to visit listing on eBay
