Moog MG-1

“Classic “Realistic” Moog in really nice condition.

If you’re looking at this listing you probably know exactly what this is – a proper USA made Moog, designed and re-badged for sale in Tandy / Radio Shack stores. These are from the same era as the Rogue, and have some similarities but also lots of cool unique features including a basic polyphonic section, oscillator sync and ring modulator. In my opinion the MG1 is superior to the Rogue, which makes it a rare bargain in the world of vintage synthesizers.

It’s a cool synth which excels at weird noises, drones, and evolving textures. I bought this a while ago having searched for a decent one for ages but these days it’s not getting the use it deserves.

I’ve freshly serviced this ready for sale – I had to remove all the notorious black goo from above the controls and switches, which luckily had not done any serious damage. I was able to clean up the original sliders and switches and it now works without fault, with all the controls operating reliably and without pops or crackles.

Cosmetic condition is very good, all knobs are intact, and there’s no significant damage to anything. Unfortunately there is a weird stain on the white keys (visible in photo) as well some light scratches to some of the black keys. Still a very smart-looking instrument over all.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog MG-1

“Moog MG1 Realistic Synthesizer By Moog Music 1980 USA Vintage Analogue Synth

The MG-1 was built by Moog for Radio Shack as part of their attempt to corner the keyboard market.

Very similar to the Moog Rogue that later emerged from Moog the MG1 has two oscillators, white noise, sync and a Moog ladder filter. It also has a ‘bell tone’ which is none tech speak for a ring modulator. The synth differs from the Rogue as it has a polyphony section. This section allowed you to play chords as well as adding a third sound source to your synth. The MG1 is a very flexible little synth!

This one is in good cosmetic condition and plays well, it has been cleaned and all functions work however it has its issues. I’m selling as spares and repairs as the ‘tone source’ switch may need replacing as it occasionally cuts out and needs encouragement. There is some corrosion to the jack sockets and RCA outputs, the RCA outputs cut out and will need replacing. I have always used the 1/4” headphone socket at the front to amplify it. I’ve also not used the interface ports – presumably CV type interfaces.

There is a mains lead included. This synth unlike the Rogue has a built in transformer. I must say this is quite noisy and there is background mains hum from it.

All keys, sliders, knobs, switches and single led work. The sliders are clean but not smooth to operate like modern ones. The dreaded black foam has been replaced at some point.

This is a 40 year old synth and quite delicate, they don’t travel well so pickup is definitely recommended. A pro service is also recommended- this is not a modern brand new Moog and so please ensure you read the description thoroughly before you bid. I can post in the UK but this is at buyer’s risk. It’s a great little synth with the signature Moog sound but it’s old and can be quirky and needs a service. ”

Moog Micromoog

“1975 Micro Moog 2090 serial #1334, turns on and works with sound, will need full cleaning/service but as it is, sound and effects work, keys contact points will need cleaning but for the most part they all function, cosmetically in fair condition for its age. Update the power led indicator has a loose wire so it tends to not work at times but does not effect the keyboard function just a loose wire somewhere.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog Micromoog

“Micromoog Keyboard Synthesizer, original, rare, SN 1104. Completely unrestored, all dust, dirt, and aged funk left intact. At the very least you will need to recap the power supply, check all the other caps and clean all the contacts on the keyboard. Not for the faint of heart. Looks and feels good (to someone who loves Moog synthesizers), all the keys work, glide strip is intact. This instrument is well worth restoration and will only grow in value. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog Prodigy

” Moog Prodigy Synthesizer from the late 70s/early 80s.

It’s in pretty reasonable condition, though the wooden end cheeks have a few light scratches (see photos) – these could be fixed by a light layer of varnish.

In full working order.

There have been a couple of modifications made: there are two additional toggle switches. One changes the filter settings, the other appears to do nothing. These were in place when I bought the synth from another user a few years ago.

Here are some details from the net:

The Prodigy features two Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCOs), one with a sawtooth waveform, a triangle waveform, and a pulse waveform, the second with a sawtooth, a triangle, and a square waveform. These waveforms can be detuned up or down by more than a fifth, allowing for the creation of thick pads as well as atonal sounds. The two oscillators could be synchronized as well, then altered using the pitch wheel (in sync mode, the pitch wheel would alter the tonality of the sound, not the pitch. Roaring synth leads were made possible using this feature.)

The voltage controlled 4-pole low-pass filter uses the typical Moog transistor ladder filter design. There is a dedicated 3-stage ADR envelope controller (ADR short for Attack Decay Release).

The Prodigy is capable of a full range of synthetic sounds, from a gentle whistle or flute in the upper ranges, to sub-sonic bass. The voltage controlled amplifier (VCA) was controllable only via a second 3-stage ADR envelope controller.

The low frequency oscillator (LFO) of the Prodigy features a triangle and square waveform, which can be routed to the VCO or VCF to create pitch or filter modulation effects.

Smoke-free, pet-free home.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog Micromoog Project Machine

” It’s important that you read this listing well as this is a fun but finicky instrument that is close to 50 years old. It’s in great cosmetic shape for its age, which makes it a prime candidate for some servicing. I have priced it accordingly.

If you are looking for a plug and play synthesizer, this isn’t it. The older generation Moogs have no MIDI or present memory, and go out of tune when you even so much as look at them. THIS INSTRUMENT WILL NEED TO BE SCALED AND TUNED. I have owned it since 2012, at which I point I had it extensively serviced. Since then, it’s rarely been used, and it is out of tune and in need of scaling. For its age it looks absolutely great. The only real flaw that I could see upon close inspection is the film on the front panel has risen in few places, see photos.

I have tested the instrument and all of the functions work, including the ribbon controller and the modulation wheel. The filter works and sounds great. Oscillator works and sounds great. The action, as goes for all older Moogs, is stiff but all of the keys are in perfect working condition. Some of the pots and switches are noisy but that is common for an instrument of this age and can likely be addressed by something as simple as compressed air. I have noticed that when you put some pressure on the front panel it can affect the oscillator, which considering its design should be no surprise: this was conceived as a cheaper alternative of the Minimoog, and less expensive materials were used.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog Prodigy Project Machine

“This was a project I didn’t get round to!

It has the common fault where it plays the same note whatever key is pressed.

I’ve checked the keyboard and it’s ok, no dead resistors and all keys work.

For the technically minded, it’s quite likely the LF353 chip known as U12

All the other controls and both oscillators, and the filter etc are working as expected.

I’ve given a good clean inside and out, damp cloth only

As you can see, one control knob has gone missing, as have some of the small screws securing the base

Otherwise in good condition, kept indoors in its original box, although there’s only one polystyrene packing piece” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog MuSonics Minimoog Model D

” Up for sale is this very rare Moog Mini Moog model D, under the Musonics nameplate. Musonics owned the company for about 2 years in the early 70’s, and not many of these were manufactured during that time. Some cool things about this Moog are the expanded delineation on the envelope generators, the pitch wheel that does not have a center detent, the hand-printed serial number, and the funky lamp cord for the power cord (all original).

When I bought this Moog, it was very dirty, had not been used in years, and sounds barely squeaked out of it. I had it cleaned, and now all the controls work as they should, and it sounds mammoth! There are some minor issues that I will try to cover: The oscillator scaling needs to be adjusted, as when you change octaves, the oscillators do not shift by an exact octave. They are all in tune with each other, but you have to retune them when switching octaves. (A very astute synth collector from Illinois ((shoutout to Len)), told me that this is very common on early models, and can be fixed with a buffer modification by a skilled tech). Also, two keys on the upper end of the keyboard need to have the contacts cleaned as sometimes the notes get a bit wanky. (that is, in fact a musical term). Again, a simple fix. Finally, there are 2 small holes in the bottom of the cabinet, perhaps at one time there were rubber feat installed, but I’m not sure, and it is not noticeable.

I bought this synth as a fixer upper, and have not had a long history of it, but I have been playing it in my studio for a week as I have cleaned it, and it does sound wonderful. I own a Moog Voyager XL, a Moog Matriarch, and have had 2 Model D’s previously, and this synth does not disappoint. It is completely playable and recordable as is, but if you invest into a thorough service with a qualified tech, it would be worth it, and will be a keeper for life.

I have tried to price this synth fairly, compared to two others currently on the market, mine is considerably less, but has NOT been fully serviced by any means. Please keep that in mind. I am a synth collector as well as a musician, and would be open to interesting trades as partial payment. Let’s bat some ideas around! Finally, I am not willing to ship this Mini Moog, as it is irreplaceable, and I don’t trust any shipping companies, (who I think sometimes see the big red “Fragile” stickers as a test). Local pickup in Elkhart, Indiana (90 minutes from Chicago), I will consider driving and meeting a buyer up to 300 miles or so. I do have this item for sale on multiple sites, so I reserve the right to end the listing at any time. ”

Moog Source

“Moog Source Synthesizer VGC + Kenton pro solo and professional flight case.

You are bidding on a genuine Moog Source from the late 1970’s in perfect working order. The membrane control surface is fully intact with just a couple of very minor scratches (see pics) but no major damage of any kind. Overall, the synth is a bit dented here and there but nothing out of the ordinary for an item of this age. The memory works just fine, and it sounds fantastic.

I’ve owned this synthisizer for around 25 years, it was serviced recently by me and tracks voltage perfectly, with all other controllers and the keyboard functioning as they should.

It comes with a tough road type flight case (never gigged) and a Kenton pro solo midi to cv/gate converter set up to work with the Moog and connectors for the S-Trig and CV to get straight down to making some great sounds (the leads are right pain to sort out BTW as the connections are in/out on the same stereo jacks). It has my presets from the past 20 years in the memory as a good jumping off point for the new owner.

This is a top-quality vintage Moog which is reflected in the price. I am a long-time vintage synth restorer and pro musician with an extensive collection of analogue gear, so I know my onions when it comes to this stuff.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog Opus 3

“I’m finally parting with my Moog Opus 3 after many years of being kept in a smoke-free studio and apartment. This instrument is a legend owned and used by the likes of Stereolab, Boards of Canada, Kraftwerk & Ministry!!!

Apearance-wise it has a handful of scuffs, marks, and scratches as anyone born in 1980 would.

It was recently serviced in July by an authorized Moog service tech in NYC.

I can include a manual

Here is a rundown of the work;

PCBs removed.

The Articulator Attack slider was broken and has been replaced. All controls were repaired/replaced as necessary and cleaned.

Bad solder joints reflowed on all boards. Connectors resoldered on the panel and voice PCBs.

Replaced a handful of op-amps on the panel board overall.

A few purple electrolytic capacitors that are liable to leakage were replaced on the panel PCB.

Key contacts and bus bar were cleaned and treated for proper note triggering.

The voices seem to have a fairly even decay, so I’ll leave the envelope capacitors (1 per key) as is for now to keep repair costs down. I think it should be fine for the foreseeable future.

Full calibration and full function check after repairs are complete.” Click here to visit listing on eBay

Moog MG-1

“Realistic mg1 synthesizer. Recently serviced. Back phono audio outputs not working. All features of the synth work over headphones. Sounds really good. Another issue is the sliders are a bit stiff, however they all work. And the final issue is there is some humming from the transformer inside, the hum is physical and doesn’t affect the sound.

I use a cirklon2 sequencer and I couldn’t get it to trigger this synth well even by setting the sequencer to s trigger mode. I think it’s something to do with the design of the envelopes, so it’s not a fault. Playing by keyboard works fine.”
