This synth was in very good condition, even before I refurbed it. I just wanted to create the best possible P-61M I could. It has never had a battery leakage, although I have updated the battery to a modern 3.6V lithium coin battery (2032) with an easy access battery holder. I refurbished the keyboard, cleaning it thoroughly piece by piece, and after polishing all the contacts, I applied the little carbon discs to each contact, as seen at sounddoctorin.com. It’s a brilliant fix, so now the keys play like new. Then I replaced all the program buttons’ switches with brand new ones, which fixes the annoying problem of not getting the buttons to work properly. Now, they are perfect. See the photo of the switch board with new (blue) switches. Then I built a brand new solid oak chassis for the synth, so as you can see, it is gorgeous, and now more solid than new. It was finished with a Satin Ebony polyurethane that goes very well with the gray panel. All pots lubricated, new knobs, all bolts and inserts for the chassis are new, and new rubber feet. So. the sound output is erratic. In some patches you press a key and sound comes out, some you have to hit hard to make a sound. Some patches, when you hit a key the note holds. some keys and patches don’t produce a sound at all.”

“Excellent vintage condition as shown in the photos. Hard case shown in the photos is included in the auction. It has scuffs and some oxidation on the metal corners and latches. There are no dents or damage on the keyboard itself that I can see. I am listing it with the condition as “for parts or not working,” because I have no facility to test it. I brought this refurbished from eBay around 10-15 years ago. I believe it has had a new battery installed (I cant see any signs of damage on the motherboard) as well an additional memory bank – this can be toggled on and off using a switch (See pictures)

It works intermittently, times when it doesn’t work the volume is very low – sometimes it has to warm up. Not all keys work – maybe 10 of the 61 are dodgy (theres a delay) and the pots are noisy. The case shows wear and tear, especially on the feet and the back. The digital display and the number selector doesn’t work correctly – sometimes different numbers show – i.e. a 7 for a 1. Sometimes, pressing a parameter button will trigger a note – quite odd – sometimes a weird high pitched buzzing sound is played alongside a note. Defiantly a project for a someone who knows what they are doing and TBH I don’t have the time or patient to mess around with it. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

” Korg Poly 61 Refurbished and with a New Solid Oak Chassis, New Main PCB, Excellent Sound. Condition is “Seller refurbished”.

This is a special fully refurbished P-61 with some great improvements, in top condition, and it sounds and looks fabulous. As you know, the P-61 is a great-sounding analog synth, with a real analog audio signal path, but with the advantage of digitally controlled tuning. As a result, this synth has that great classic sound, and the tuning is very stable. This particular synth has been refurbished with these features of note:

– The main CPU board (KLM 509A) has been replaced with a brand new replica from Andrej Shenshyn of synthronics.de in Germany. (That cost me over $300 US – see the photo).
– I refurbished the keyboard, cleaning all the keys and contacts, and solving the issue of faulty contacts by putting conductive carbon discs on all the contacts, per the solution by Sounddoctorin.com (a great solution to faulty key contacts – look it up). I added the extra effort to glue thin plastic pieces to each of the keys’ hammer stem, to make the contacts activate even better. Now it plays with a nice light touch, with no dead keys.
– I removed all the tactile programing switches, and replaced them from a large pool of 68 used switches that I had, testing very carefully and selecting the best-working 17 switches to use. Now the program selection buttons work perfectly. Gone is the frustrating issue of hitting the buttons a bunch of times to finally select the program you want.
– I cleaned all the pots and switches with a spray lubricant, so they are all working fine with no scratching noise or jumping values.
– The KLM 508 voice board has been fully calibrated, and it is in good shape. I replaced one interconnect that was faulty, so now it is fine.
– I built a new solid oak chassis for this synth, because as you probably know, the original was made of cheap particle board that was one of the main complaints of the P-61. This is a beautiful replacement, built very solid and the panel and other parts fit perfectly, giving this synth a better-than-new look, and it will be way more durable than the original. I gave it an ebony stain, to go well with the gray panel, with a satin polyurethane finish for a classy soft look. ” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Synth powers on and does produce sound. However, the sounds seem to be random and erratic, and no longer correspond with the programs on a consistent basis. Also, it appears some of the keys may be sticking – not physically, but certain presets will produce sound even when no key is being pressed.

Synth was in perfect working order until I recently moved across the country and plugged it back in. My guess is that something internally must have knocked loose during transport. I did briefly open the panel just to see if there were any obvious issues such as an unsoldered wire, but nothing stuck out to me. Cosmetically, the synth looks great, with only some light chipping in the paint on one of the side panels (see photo). All buttons, keys and joystick work.

This would make for a great project synth for anyone interested in tinkering around with it.

“Up for sale is this fantastically cool Korg Poly-61M which I purchased new an eon ago in the 80’s! It is now looking for a new home. There is the usual wear on the ends. All keys function properly, volume and other knobs work fine. I’ve used this keyboard infrequently over the years and so the key action is close to new. Rheostats toggles and switches work fine. Button pads 1-8 also work fine but sometimes one will double tap instead of single tap. This is likely oxidation on the contacts due to infrequent use of the instrument, it “should” correct itself with increased use or cleaning. This is a bulky (but not heavy) item, pickup only. Unlike many Poly 61s that are out there, this one is not all bashed up. The body is in great condition, with only a few minor nicks, and the synth is in very good working form. It has never had a battery leak, so all the functions work perfectly, and I did the following to it, to get it in top shape:

– I replaced the original battery with a CR2032, in a battery holder on a longer set of wires to make changing it easy.

– I totally refurbished the keyboard, cleaning all the keys, cleaning all the contacts, and adding carbon discs to the contacts, as per the solution by Sounddoctorin.com. (this is a great solution for faulty contacts — look it up.) That brings all the keys to perfect working condition.

– I removed all the tactile button switches and replaced them with brand new ones (a lengthy and tedious task.) That solves the annoying problem of having to keep hitting the program buttons many times until they work, or having them double count because of contact bounce. Now all the programming buttons work flawlessly. There is a photo showing the new switches(blue) on the two switch circuit boards. My soldering skills are quite sufficient for this work.

– I cleaned all the pots to eliminate scratching noises and jumping values.

– I replaced any of the screws that were missing, and all the feet are there, too.

This is a really great sounding synth, with a pure analog voice signal, and very stable tuning thanks to the digital control of the oscillators. And with factory midi, it is just a dream to own. It is fully tested, and loaded with sounds from a file I downloaded onto my phone from the internet. There are lots of those out there, and it is easy to do.
