“Korg Polysix Vintage VCO Analogue Synthesiser – UK plug, 220V.

The Polysix is one of the few vaguely affordable, old-school VCO synths still available. Back in 1981, it was supposedly Korg’s attempt to challenge Sequential Circuits’ Prophet-5.

This particular Polysix has had a lot of studio use in the last few months and would probably benefit from a service. Still, considering that the synth is nearly 40 years old (so CV only), it has behaved extremely well.

The only practical issues I’ve had with it:

– – The arpeggio button and patch selector button 7 sometimes need a second press.

– – Keys C0 and D0 tend to double-trigger.

Cosmetic issues:

– – A handful of the patch selection buttons sit slightly deeper into the synth’s metal frame than the others (see pictures). All function.

– – A few of the keys at the treble end of the board sit at fractionally uneven heights. You don’t notice when playing, though.

– – The wood veneer on the side and front panels could do with re-gluing at the edges.

– – There’s a noticeable scratch on the synth’s metal front panel (pictured).” Click here to search for synths on eBay

“Korg Polysix Vintage Analog Synthesizer for spares or repair. Most of the buttons, knobs and keys do not work (most of them seem to work around the 4th octave).
The sound starts up as soon as you turn on the synth – this rising, pitch bend until it settles at around the lowest note.
It sounds totally discordant and screechy so might be good if you’re into industrial noise or power electronics, other than that it’s basically unusable.
I had it fixed in 2005 by this guy in the Lake District but it didn’t last long. I think the damage from the lithium ion battery was done & it just got worse.” Click here to search for synths on eBay

“Vintage Korg Poly Six Synthesizer

In very good condition cosmetically. (one key cracked) Stored in a closet the last 15years.

THE BAD:

The KLM 367 board was damaged by corrosion due to battery leakage. When powered on, Bank A,B C and several random program numbers would be on at the same time. There was practically no sounds /output. When trying to load original programs from the tape, it would go immediately to“ERROR” at best. I replaced IC30, IC31, IC23, and IC25. I also tried to repair some of the damaged traces in the battery area using jumper wires on both sides of the board. I replaced the NI CAD battery with a Lithium battery and removedC40 and replaced R91 with a 1S1555 diode.

THE GOOD:

When powered on only Bank A and Program 1 are on as expected. When I tried to load the original patches “From Tape” the “Found” and “LOAD” LED lights up and programs1 thru 8 light up in sequence as expected with no errors. But no programs are actually loaded. I get the same “STRINGY VIOLIN” at all program numbers. I can now go into “WRITE” mode on a program and change the parameters to whatever I want and it plays just fine. If I leave that program and come back to it, it’s gone. I’m happy to at least get it to point it plays and the parameters are functional. I now noticed there are some dead keys but I don’t want to venture into it any further as I’m only a novice at this type of thing. ” Click here to search for synths on eBay

“This listing is for my AMAZING Vintage Korg PolySix Analog Synthesizer. I won’t talk too much about these amazing machines as if you are looking at this listing then you know just what an incredible and sought-after synth this is.

I bought this a couple of years ago for a number of projects and just fell in love with its incredible sound (so so warm – think Boards of Canada for a simple idea). I bought it in the same condition (with the same sticker) for a significant amount of money as they are quite hard to find. It had just had its electronics cleaned out and tested (hence the rather annoyingly glued modulation wheel area – see pix). It has some marks here and there but plays beautifully – remarkable for these synths given their age. It has never been toured and only kept in studio. “nice synth in good shape. no manual, i have used the synth and it seems to work well. i am not 100% sure every button and light does exactly as it is supposed to, in tune etc, i mean, theres a lot of lights and buttons, it gets confusing, but i will say i believe they do. no weird noises, pots aren’t scratchy etc…see the pics, overall in good shape, the “wood” corners are a little beat but inside its clean, replaced battery and no corrosion from the old one so thats a real positive! i would recommend having it looked at for performance/safety sake but other than maybe some slight adjustments i would think this bad boy is ready to go. ” Click here to search for synths on eBay
