All the buttons and nobs are right on the front so there is almost no menu diving (It’s worth it to read the manual though because it is complex at first.) “This auction is for a fully functioning Korg DW-8000 synthesizer. This synth is a part of ’80s history and marks an interesting change when synths were going digital, but still had analog amplifiers (VCAs) and analog filters (VCFs).
I did some maintenance on this synth a year ago, including:
All 22 front panel switches were replaced. All buttons work perfectly with no glitching.
The battery was replaced and a battery holder was installed to make the battery easier to replace in the future. (See photos.)
The Program Up and Damper jacks were replaced. (These are the gold plated jacks in the photos.)
The original factory presets were re-loaded.
A new 8-foot power cable was purchased and is included with this sale.
I am an electrical engineer and did all the rework myself.
Aftertouch works on this synth! This is somewhat rare for a DW-8000. It takes some pressure to activate the aftertouch, but from what I read that’s normal on this keybed.
The joystick works in all four directions.
All LEDs work.
All keyboard keys are in excellent condition – no chips or cracks.
This is a great synth, and it uses the 16 digital waveforms Korg continued to use in the M1 and other classics that followed. The filter is just fantastic, and the arpeggiator and key assign modes are a joy to use.
I have owned this synth for about 25 years. It has never been out on the road since I’ve owned it, so any scrapes and scratches happened before my time. A couple of the screws on the bottom of the synth case are missing, but the unit is totally solid. I’m selling this because I just don’t use it. “Ensemble makes constant drone noise, lowest D#. When tremolo is on the signal is cut.
Pin 20 of IC on Module 7 has been disconnected. It is internally shorted to pin 19, causing tigger/decay circuit of D#1 to not function. IC on module 2 needs replacing. “I used to play this synth regularly and have owned it since the late 90s but when recently trying it, it only seems to power up using batteries (not included) rather than via a PSU. It produces sounds although doesn’t seem to have retained the patches and saving sounds hasn’t been tested.

“Operationally everything works as expected. One or two pots in the filter section (EG and track in particular) had become glitchy and showing symptoms of requiring a good clean. The unit has therefore been recently stripped and rotary controls and key contacts have been cleaned. At the same time tuning has been re-calibrated. This work was undertaken by Electrofix (Bristol).
Cosmetically the keybed and top surface of the synth are in good condition for the synth’s age. The side cheeks have at some time sustained damage on the corners and might benefit from repair or replacement.
At some stage there has been a modification in the form of an additional switch (visible to the left of the Korg logo on the top panel and above the main output volume knob). This purpose of this switch is unclear, the wiring links to the CV in jack – when not engaged the MonoPoly operates perfectly normally.”

” Korg Poly-61M completely refurbished, new oak chassis, new switches, Beautiful !
This synth was in very good condition, even before I refurbed it. I just wanted to create the best possible P-61M I could. It has never had a battery leakage, although I have updated the battery to a modern 3.6V cell battery. I refurbished the keyboard, cleaning it thoroughly piece by piece, and after polishing all the contacts, I applied the little carbon discs to each contact, as seen at sounddoctorin.com. It’s a brilliant fix, so now the keys play like new. Then I replaced all the program buttons’ switches with brand new ones, which fixes the annoying problem of not getting the buttons to work properly. Now, they are perfect. See the photo of the switch board with new switches. Then I built a brand new solid oak chassis for the synth, so as you can see, it is gorgeous, and now more solid than new. All pots lubricated, new knobs, all bolts and inserts for the chassis are new, and new feet. Nothing is missing.
This is a great analog synth, and all functions and features are working perfectly, and the sound is AMAZING. It is great having Midi on such a fabulous-sounding vintage synth, and this one has it straight from the factory. This is my finest work so far. This only makes sense if you *really* want a vintage synth and have the chops to fix it yourself, or you already have one and want to break this for parts. Otherwise, buy a new Behringer K2 for not much more than the repair cost on this and get (nearly) all the good stuff in an MS20 clone (think: twice the MS10) in a modern form factor…
…On the plus side, I believe the fault is a fairly basic broken power connection somewhere inside, as it still works intermittently sometimes if you tap it. It is also showing it’s age cosmetically – scratches, sticker marks on the keys, corrosion on the jack input surrounds (though all connections inside are fine and crackle free). “This is a vintage Korg MS-10 that will be sold for parts/not working. A really neat vintage synthesizer that’s just waiting to be restored! The little functions that do work on the unit seem cool. The synth powers on – all keys work, (even the broken one key one) and from what I can tell, all parameters work. But the synth sounds to be unregular. No matter what way the parameters are twisted, the sound you get is always the same – sustained note that glides up and down. It’s as if the synth is stuck on some self-oscillation cycle. Pots are pretty scratchy as well – needs a good clean and repair. Also tried running an external signal through the synth and got nothing.
