“as the 1980 Mk1 it’s the rarer beast.
It’s three keyboards in one; “Synthe” “Brass” and “Strings” but effectively, as others have pointed out, the “Synthe” and “Brass” are pretty much two seperate synths.
You can cut the keyboard into different sections and effect any or all with the onboard flanger, which Korg should have really marketed as a seperate pedal, it’s astounding. There’s a modded jack on the back so you can put external instruments through the flanger, too.
It can produce lush pads, hard percussives and just plain analog synth weirdness to your heart’s content. Also it’s programmable; you hit the “Manual” button, play around until you’re happy with a sound, then hit the Memory Programme button and assign it to one of the 16 memory locations.
A couple of things to note; one of the end cheeks has some slight scuffs, the “Brass” lettering is a little cracked and the “KORG” on the back is also a little cracked, but these are small details and don’t affect the sound. And just so you know; when you change between “Manual” and one of the preprogrammed sounds, there’s a second lag as the board catches up that you want to change settings. I’m not sure if this is a Mk1 anomaly, but it’s there and thought you should know. Once I became aware, it’s all fine.
The Trident’s synthe section has square,saw and pulse waves, but although you can hear a difference between them, it’s pretty subtle. And the PWM isn’t as thick as other machines I’ve played, but maybe that’s just my ears, it’s all subjective. However, once you wind in the “Detune” dial everything thickens up very nicely. But again, that’s personal opinion.
Also it is FULLY POLYPHONIC and, crucially, MIDI so will slot straight into your set up.
