“Unfortunately, this unit is not outputting any sound, so I am selling it “as is, not returnable, for parts or repair.” I don’t know if the issue with no sound is because I have a bad midi cable going into it, if it needs a new battery (which I believe is a common problem in these older synth modules), or if there’s something else that needs to be repaired. In any case, I’ll be offering it for much less than a fully-working unit, so it may be a great value for someone who can troubleshoot and repair it.

It comes with the EX-8000 unit (with attached rack ears) and the power cord. That’s it. Find the manual and other information online. I can also send you a folder of sound banks including the factory banks and other user banks I’ve collected which can be loaded via midi using a free SysEx program available online for Mac or PC (I’ll send you download links).

This synth works/sounds great and does everything it’s supposed to. There are some light scratches in as seen in the photos but they don’t affect usability or visibility.

Ensoniq ESQ1

“Selling my beloved ESQ-1 for parts or repair. The main issue with it is the sound is barely audible which appears to be a fault with the filters. My hunch is that the fault is in the power supply or the power to the filter chips, as it’s unlikely that all 8 filter chips would fail simultaneously.

When going to the hidden Filter Calibration page, the display values are all blank (instead of eight 3-digit values ~140 like it’s supposed to display, and the unit needs to be power cycled to exit the page.

Everything else works great- keys (via midi), buttons, faders, and display. There’s a new RAM battery (2x lithium AA in a battery pack with an On/Off switch) wired to the main board.
