“This Rare EML 101 is in very nice condition. These were often owned by educational institutions and were commonly played hard by students. This ElectroComp 101 was given to me by a cousin, a pianist who is not into electronic sounds. It was given to him probably 30+ years ago by a musician friend of his who moved to Europe and didn’t have room for it. It has been stored in his closet at his parents house for all these years, and the house just sold so he passed it on to me. There were only 1,000 of these made – but I don’t know what serial number this one is or if it was used in any jazz albums or whatever. This model is sometimes described as a poor-man’s Arp 2600. It has a very unique sound that some describe as harsh, metallic, alien, machine-like. I think this comes from the fact that it has no onboard dynamics and really responds well to reverb, delay and other sweeteners. The design uses a patch-in system of inputs/outputs using 1/4″ cables to put together some interesting sounds.
This unit appears to be only slightly used. The cabinet, keyboard, buckles, electronics and even the carrying handle all appear to be in very nice condition. There are a few minor scratches, and one corner of the cabinet is slightly broken as you can see in the pictures. My musician/engineer friend and I hooked this up and played with it for a while, and everything seems to work. The potentiometers, switches, cords, keys, anything we tried seemed to function properly. We patched it in in different ways and it definitely made some interesting sounds. Not being a synth person, this should be tried out by anyone serious in buying it before purchasing. I am not into electronic music, and would like to move it on to someone who can use and appreciate this unit.” Click here to visit listing on eBay
