“Selling my Oberheim Matrix 1000. It has an upgraded power supply to a modern, quiet and cooler one. This unit had the vibrating transformer issue (very common to these units). It has a replaced battery, with a holder attached to the inside side, and it also has a switch. This unit has the 1.20 “Tauntek” firmware installed which makes many improvements and fixes to the stock firmware.

Cosmetically I would say it is very good. A little rack rash on top and very little on the front. Please check the pictures or ask questions though before bidding.

It has been factory reset and calibrated and I populated RAM patch 001 with a ROM patch to ensure new battery worked OK.

This unit has been racked in my smoke free home studio for the past few years and has worked very well, but I am downsizing.”

“Reluctantly selling my original Oberheim Matrix 1000 synth module due to financial crunch. It has been in dry storage for several years and has always been in a smoke-free environment. It works fine other than the RAM battery needs replacing (a pretty simple procedure, using a CR2032 battery and a cheap battery holder that I can supply). This means patches 000 thru 199 are missing – though in fact this bank of sounds consisted entirely of “best hits” copies of the 900 ROM sound patches that are still intact within the synth.

This is a true classic MIDI synth, still revered among synth aficionados.

There are surface scratches and marring consistent with long term mounting within a rack, and one mounting tab has a very minor bend in it that has been straightened out – no actual loss of function resulting” Click here to visit listing on eBay

“Oberheim Matrix 1000 Vintage Rack Mount Analog Synthesizer Module

The mighty and classic Oberheim sound – as heard on all your favorite late 80’s to early 90’s synth hits – in a 1U rack.
The “1000” refers to the ridiculous (especially for the era) number of presets, classified as 195 keyboard sounds, 118 strings, 130 woodwinds and percs, 239 synthesizer, 119 bass, 74 lead, and 125 effects. It’s the same engine as the Matrix 6 and 6R, with 6 voices – each having 2 DCO’s, a low pass filter, 2 VCA’s, 3 envelope generators, 2 LFO’s, and 2 ramp gens.

This thing will eat for plug-ins for breakfast. It’s yummy warm for pads, punchy for bass, snappy for leads, and in true Oberheim style the brass patches have that reassuring foomf. OK – I just made that up, but it sounds great!

Overall condition is good – surface scratching from rack mounting and something took a chomp out of the lower right side rack ear (doesn’t effect the ability to slide it into a rack and be secured by the other three screws – hardly noticeable once rack’d.) Looks like some of the screws on the faceplate aren’t original so maybe it had some surgery at some point. I’m not the original owner but it has spent the past 20 years in my care under loving climate controlled smoke free studio conditions.

Buttons are responsive, audio output is clean and free from noise, LED’s are nice and bright – all functions tested and working.

When pared with the Ctrlr software (or any of many other editors) the true depth and power of this machine comes to life. It has the OS1.2 update and works well with MIDI controllers.

It has always served me well – now it’s looking for a new home so it can continue to make wonderful sounds for a long time to come.”

“Please read for complete description of the synthesizer.For sale is an Oberheim Matrix 1000 analog synthesizer. I purchased this unit about 5 years ago from a college music professor. It was fully working when purchased and has sat unused for years. I recently powered it on to test it before listing it for sale and it displayed the “1.1.1/6.1.1” error message on the screen. I powered it off and on, and it then worked perfectly fine. All of the buttons work perfectly, all of the inputs and outputs work, the volume knob works perfectly, and it sounds absolutely AMAZING. I left it powered off for a week and went back to it. I powered it on and got the “1.1.1” message, I powered it off and back on, and once again was able to get everything to work perfectly fine. Looking into this error, it looks like an issue with the back-up battery. I don’t have the time or money to spend repairing it so I’m looking to sell it “as-is”, though I’m sure its an easy fix for someone who is familiar with vintage gear. “Oberheim Matrix 1000 6 voice polyphonic analog synthesiser.

Visually a bit tatty, the faceplate is slightly misshapen and has some rack rash and a few other small marks. The volume pot is also a little bit loose but functional.

1 of the voice chips has failed and needs replacing. I have been using the synthesiser without much problems without it as not many of the 800 presets use all the voices, but you do notice it occasionally. I purchased a new CEM 3396 narrowbody to do this but never got around to it, same story with the firmware update. Both of these are very easy pull out/push in jobs, but while it’s opened up probably worth switching out the battery for a battery holder/button battery (requires some basic soldering), although seems to be fine.

Once you get the new firmware in you have a couple of options for ‘real-time’ control. One of them is an £800-ish controller from Steroping, Another is patchbase which is around 30 quid and works on your computer or iPad.

Comes with the original instruction manual which I have forgotten to photograph but will add tomorrow.”
