“It’s a sad day to let this one go, but I’ve got a big new project coming down the pipe that needs to be funded :’) This synth certainly needs no introduction, and has been with me since my first record. I’ve replaced two filter chips, which are the culprits for the “voice chip problem.” I’ve maintained the synth professionally and kept it almost completely in studio.

“I’ve had this synth for the last 8 years and it has been kept in air conditioned studios or at home.

I bought it in 2013 and then had it serviced and refurbished by Cyberwave EMS (vintagesynths.co.uk), who repaired all 6 voice chips, fitted a new battery, and replaced some sliders.

It has a minor, rare issue with the display which makes it a little harder to read. It’s been this way since I have had it, makes no difference to the sound and easy to operate regardless.

Completely recapped: all PSU and signal path electrolytic capacitors replaced with high-quality capacitors (Nichicon Muse, Elna Silmic, Panasonic)

All new Analogue Renaissance voices (6 x AR80017A + 3 x D5534A)

All new faders (panel and bender)

New felt gasket set from Bell Tone Synth Labs

All new tactile switches

New CR2032 battery and holder (so you can replace it easily next time), factory presets re-loaded

The body has a few chips and scratches to the paint, and there is a crack on the left side panel. The power switch is slightly crooked in its enclosure, but this does not affect the ability to power on the synth. “Up for sale, a 1980’s Roland Juno-106s analog synthesizer in exceptional condition and in good working order. Recently imported directly from Japan, the 106s is an uncommon variant which is identical circuit-wise to your garden variety 106, yet with the benefit of a pair of internal speakers. This synth has just been fully serviced and calibrated, wired for 120V operation via the original transformer taps. One of the most enduringly popular Roland synths of the ’80s, the Juno-106s has virtually the same synth engine as its predecessor the Juno 60, yet with extensive MIDI capability and over twice the patch memory storage (128 patches).

The Juno-106s is a six-voice polyphonic and programable analog synth with one digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) per voice. The Juno-106 uses built-in Chorus to fatten up its sound to dramatic effect too. The nature of the Juno’s DCO results in a sound that is stable, always in perfect tune, but still warm and analog. The Juno features an excellent 24dB/oct analog lowpass filter with plenty of resonance and self-oscillating possibilities as well as a non-resonant high pass filter. The programable pitch/mod bender can be assigned to control the DCO pitch, VCF cutoff, and LFO amount all at once or individually.

Cosmetically, this Roland synthesizer shows only a few minor scuffs on the bottom of the enclosure and sparingly little additional wear, with clean and virtually unfaded key caps, all original slider caps intact (save for three close equivalents above the pitch bender), and bright graphics. This synth is straightforward, powerful, and the perfect balance of thick analog warmth and modern digital convenience.”

“This Juno is a road warrior, appears that set list or patch list was taped on the upper right corner of the top cover. I tried removing the tape gunk but stopped when the finish started flaking off. Otherwise it appears to me that everything works. All the keys are working, I can play 6 notes at a time and I’ve read that means all the voices are working. Pots and sliders are scratchy as you would expect. All the voice buttons are working, patch number window lights up, headphone jack works, About a year ago I used the MIDI in/out, it worked. Stereo outputs worked last time I plugged them in. Bender is working. I’ve never opened it up just tightened the screws on the outside. ” Beloved Roland Juno 106 available, used in excellent cosmetic condition. All sliders have been replaced and work great. On the easy side of the spectrum, the volume knob can sound a little noisy until you work it a little bit (issues with the volume knob are minor) Sadly, one of the voice chips does not sound. For every keypress, five notes will sound and one will not. The Juno 106 rotates through voices for each note so it’s clear that one voice chip needs to be reseated or replaced. I’ve looked into repairs and found that replacing the voice chips costs somewhere between $300 and $600 to fix.

Since I had the sliders replaced a few years ago, I’ve lost the interest to have the synth repaired again. I’ve had many great years and it’s time for me to move on and try something else. I think for the right person, this will be a great purchase. It’s in great cosmetic shape, if you live in a major city such as New York, LA, Boston, or near a reputable repair center, you’re in luck. Sadly, I don’t so shipping factors into the financial equation for getting repairs and I honestly don’t have the fortitude for it.

This Juno has been lovingly cared for. A Juno 106 in great working condition can fetch $1600 – $2000 on the used market. I’m hoping to make $800 at least for this one. Shipping looks to cost about $100 or higher. I will not accept returns on this item. Look at the photos in detail and please be sure you are willing to purchase this with the means to get the voice chip repaired or replaced.
